NORTH Hants Golf Club’s big weekend gets under way with the Hampshire Hog dinner on Friday night, when DP World Tour Ryder Cup director Guy Kinnings is the guest at the event’s annual dinner.

Kinnings spent many years working for IMG, the worldwide sports management agency, helping to manage the career of Ryder Cup captain and seven-time European Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie.

Former Hampshire captain Neil Dawson, who is North Hants’ men’s captain in 2023, said: “We have been lucky to have some great speakers over the years, including the late Peter Alliss, who flew back from the Masters in 2017.

“And last year David Howell told some great stories about his experiences at Augusta, and playing in two Ryder Cup winning teams.

“With Europe looking to win back the Ryder Cup in Italy in September, I am sure our members will be keen to hear Guy’s thoughts on all the big changes in the world of golf over the last couple of years.”

Other past speakers have included two-time Amateur Champion Peter McEvoy, who claimed the Hog back in 1989. He is also the only player in more than 40 years to have won the Selborne Salver, which is being played for on Saturday at Blackmoor GC.
